Webinar Description:
Birds often benefit from sedation or anesthesia for procedures ranging from general handling (for very stressed individuals), and diagnostics to surgery. Several drugs have been investigated for sedation in birds, and in combination with local analgesia can even be considered for minor surgical procedures. Sedation should be considered any time general anesthesia is not specifically indicated.
Webinar Agenda:
- Introduction to sedation and anesthesia in psittacine patients
- Discussion of relative risks and benefits or each
- Review of agents used for sedation in pet avian species
- Scenarios where sedation can be considered instead of general anesthesia
- Review of administration techniques, monitoring and recovery
